my life
Super!!!!
Super!
Crashes after a few minutes. iPad,iOS 9.3.5.
The look and feel of old-school film photography. This app has hundreds and hundreds of film and lens combos, including flashes, cropping, editing, etc.. it’s like having your own little dark room. All of the film packs are linked in the app to the new Hipstamatic camera app for ease of use. The customer support is top-notch. The response time is quick and my issues are always addressed. Thank you, Hipstamatic team for your inspirational and creative app.
I’ve been using Hipstamatic products since they first introduced the first Hipstamatic app. I still use the first combo I ever made. Some of my favorite images have been made using this app. I’ve also tried all of the Hipstamatic brand products that have come and gone over years. These guys have great ideas and they ALWAYS respond when you need help. They pay attention to feedback and address potential bugs. If you’re new to this, jump in and have fun. Finding new combinations is my favorite thing to do and sharing with my friends is another. They also have a new version of this app that is subscription based that gives you ALL of the films, lenses, flashes and cases. Of course I use that too and it’s great fun seeing what people are shooting all over the world. Glad this is one app that was not killed over the years.
…pizza was a camera app. It would be this one
I use this app all the time but I’m not buying anymore packs until there’s a decent update…UPDATE: been waiting for this. Still can’t change the ISO without the app crashing. ☹️4/25/24: ditto 9/23/25: can anyone explain why the ISO has to remain on Auto? Every attempt to change it still makes the app crash. 12/26/24: still can’t change the ISO😒
I bought Hipstamatic on 4 January 2013 and have used it virtually daily since then. It has documented the first moments in the life of my daughter, her development over the years, our family's life together, my friends, work and everything in between. For me, it is an absolutely indispensable app that lets me add a sense of analogue realism too my photos, something which I, as a film photographer, deeply miss in the perfect digital "captures" that the phone outputs with the ordinary camera app. Having used the app for more than a decade and on several iPhone models and iOS versions I have noticed a few things that could be improved. One is the general stability of the code. It happens that the app crashes. I have seen this on all iOS versions since 2013. Another is the ease of use of the app with respect to zooming, when one uses the non-camera case mode. The slider really should move when the phone is held horizontally. Keeping the slider at the top of the screen makes one-handed use very difficult. A third thing concerns introducing "click stops" in the zoom range for the phone's various cameras. This would help knowing that a shot is made at native resolution. Even though phone cameras are very good these days, shooting at a lens's native resolution has an impact on image quality. In this vein it would also be helpful if the app were made compatible with the new camera button to simplify shooting and zooming. The last thing concerns iOS integrating. To someone like me who uses this app almost exclusively it would be wonderful to be able to set Hipstamatic as the standard camera. I realise that for Hipstamatic the focus may be on the other subscription-based app. I may be in the minority but I don't subscribe. I prefer to buy my things, be it phones, software, music or movies. I'd rather pay more for an app than have to shell out money on a monthly basis for its use. Nevertheless I hope that Hipstamatic will contribute to develop the standalone app as there's nothing like it in the iOS universe. Those are my thoughts. I thank you not only for taking them into account, but generally for having created a camera that keeps the love of real analogue photography alive in this day and age of ever more "perfect" images. Cheers Philip Dygeus (philipus.com)
I’m so bummed they discontinued the print lab. It was my favorite service to have my pics printed. 😩
This could be fun but it’s so frustrating. App changes film and lens settings on startup (and no I do not have shake for random effects enabled). Switching from classic to pro regularly magnifies the view screen in really weird ways. It won’t import photos taken with native camera app—just hangs or displays a blank. I paid for the starter pal and which I didn’t.
Remains an absolute joy for shooting and editing. Have been happily sending these guys a buck a month for years. Too bad that model has been discarded. The app needs dusting off, with a few UI glitches that have built up over the last couple of years. The new Hipstamatic could be great, but is remarkably unstable for a dedicated camera app.
A bug in the recent update rendered my app unable to load any of the recently unlocked (for Makers members) films and lenses. Allan and Ryan worked on this bug literally for several months, and sent me messages, unprompted, along the way to let me know where they were at in the process of getting things fixed. They didn’t stop until it was fixed, and messaged me immediately when the fix was finally implemented. This wouldn't result in any extra sales for them - in fact, the fix enabled me to download items without paying for them anymore (the well-worth-it benefit of being a member), but they followed through to make sure it was resolved for me. I’ve never had an app developer that focused so intently on one user’s experience, and their efforts just go to reinforce that Hipstamatic remains my favorite iOS app to this day.
Alas occasional internet issues not their fault connecting to addons — but my probs resolved right away. The one time I needed customer sec, years ago, they were very helpful. Think I will switch to the subscription version next year.
Ignore the app that’s actually called Hipstamatic. This is the original Hipstamatic.
Changing my original review from a five star to a one star. I used to love this app. Now I can’t access any of the film packs and other gear I purchased. Apparently you have to subscribe now? I paid for the gear. Why do I need to subscribe?
Used to be one of my go to photo editing apps, now I just want my money back. Can’t even remember how much money I’ve spent buying all kinds of lenses and films and flashlights over the years. Fast forward to today, maybe 15 out of 80 cameras, 20 out of 70 films, 7 out of 20 flashlights are showing as available, and the rest are shown as to be downloaded; yet when I click on them, the app asks me to sign in for access while I was already signed into my Apple account. Also depends on your luck, it could crash as soon as you accidentally moved your finger on those grayed out icons.
Hipstamatic Classic app does not open for RAW file on iPhone 14, why? Is the problem still not solved?
Will you please add the Lenticular Lens. I’m not sure what’s been going on as far as what used to be a monthly release of new filters. I’m a loyal customer for many years & I hope that Hipstamatic continues to update the Classic version. I have purchased all of the filter packs over the years & I’m always checking to see if a new one has been released but it’s been quite some time since the last release & yet the Lenticular Lens was released for the newer app but hasn’t been released on the Classic app. I’m hoping this isn’t the end of the Classic app or if it is then I truly hope that you’ll allow people to carry over all their paid for filter packs onto the newer app without having to pay for a subscription.
One of my all time favorite apps Ever!! Have had it for 10+yrs! Epic photos
For the last several upgrades I’ve had, this app has frozen and crashed. Won’t even work on iPhone 15 Max Pro. Really irritating.
every time i open it it closes on me
It used to be great app but now I can’t retrieve my gear purchases and I can’t save my edits. What happened?
This classic version of Hipstamatic continues to be my all-time favorite app. It’s fun and almost infinitely flexible. I’m sure there’s a learning curve for new users but it’s so worth it — it becomes a self-contained photo lab, capable of creating images that are expressive and amazing, works of very personal art. I think the dev team is missing a chance to sell more “paks” by not updating the What’s New section of the library. I used to discover new films & lenses that way. But I’m grateful they are keeping the app alive — I still use it almost daily and it’s kind of the anchor of my social media persona. Highest imaginable recommendation.
I am so disappointed with this app, after so many years loving it now it looks like developers do not care about this app anymore, it lacks support for the new Apple raw format, something snapseed was able to process since day one. I have purchased every single filter there is, this is not fair Hipstamatic, do not do this to your loyal customers that have supported you throughout the years.
Please keep this app working the same way it does now, forever. It’s perfect.
Don’t know what’s going on, but I’m not able to download my video feeds from the app something Coco pops up error what’s going on guys?
So fun to vintage-style my less-than-perfect photos! I’m sticking with this classic version, purchasing add-on filters, etc. as they become available (I’ve amassed quite a collection). Love what these retro-flavored filters can do to my average photos; and enjoy applying various filters, lenses, flashes, grains, etc., to see what I can create. Especially appreciate being able to edit my photos on iPad Pro in landscape (thank you!!) mode. Highly recommended for those who love retro style!
I had to pay $2.99 just to try this app and when I downloaded it it doesn’t work as expected. I made me decision based on the examples posted for this app (in the app store), but what I got it nothing like these examples. I’m disappointed and deleted it within 20 minutes of purchasing it. I would greatly appreciate a refund. Thank you.
This is an amazing camera app. You will not be disappointed. I switched to a Samsung Galaxy and when I went back to IPhone, it was the FIRST app I downloaded. Absolutely amazing! Thank you hipsta for making my photos incredible!
It been my go to for editing photos and taking photos for more than a decade. Stay awesome.
I have loved this app since day one and I own every single in app purchase for it and every month I buy the new film packs. They have top-notch customer service and the developer is amazing . If you have an issue they get back with you very quickly and try to help you in anyway they can. The only issue I had was that the viewfinder did not always work. I know we’re kind of randomly shooting with this app, and that’s the purpose but the viewfinder is pretty important when I want to frame up a photo. I’ve noticed since iOS 16 was released that sometimes the app doesn’t open, the app freezes, the viewfinder is still completely out of focus, and it lags very bad -I’m using an iPhone 13 promax so there should be no issues. I am hoping they will update it because it had the viewfinder issue before the last update. I understand that a lot of work went into Hipstamatic X and that is a great app, but this app is the first photo app I purchased for my very first iPhone in 2010 and I own a lot of apps. I own a ton of apps over ten iOS devices and I’ve spent the most on this app. I am not cheap. I have apps that I’ve spent $80 or more on if they do what I need them to do. I literally spend money every month on this app because I support it and it is a great app- especially if you were raised on film. When I started shooting there was no digital and I would spend days in a dark room trying to get one photo perfected. Then digi came out and I had to learn an entire new skill set. Now anyone can say they are a photographer and not know any of the basics of photography (weather, analog or digital we have devices that do it all for us now). I’m not complaining about technology and I embrace it, but this app keeps it as close to shooting with different styles of film, trying out different lenses, using filters over your lenses, and even though I hate flash, still has interesting flashes to use. It’s the most creative photo app in the whole iOS ecosystem and not being able to use it while paying monthly is a bummer. I am not one of those spoiled people that expects your app to do every single thing on the planet but I do expect it to actually work. Come on guys you can put a quick update in and clear out all the bugs that everyone’s been complaining about for the last few years. You still have a ton of people who love this app and still don’t mind spending a few bucks a month to get new Hipsta packs. But please give us an update. I know you’re focused on Hipstamatic X and it is a wonderful app, but on occasion when I change lenses and films, my viewfinder screen is blurry. Just one update on this app and it will be as perfect as it always has be Yes, this is my favorite photography app and I own every case, every lens, every film, every flash, and anything you guys sell I will purchase. If you are into this app, and on every in app, purchase, or at least even just use it to play around with you are using a very high-quality and wonderful iOS app. Back in the 90s I went to school for photography and not just one college but to colleges. One of those colleges was a highly revered art college. I learned a lot about analog photography with a little bit of digital sprinkled in. This is a special app and I’ve had it on every phone since my very first iPhone four and I keep it on every iPad. Let’s just say I have five iPhones and five iPads and I still use this app on the daily.
The app locks when open! Tried everything, and it still freezes. I purchased all the filters and lens, and it still won’t work!! Have an iPhone 13 Pro Max!! Help!!
I used to use this app all of the time and then I had to change all of my iCloud stuff and lost track of my apps. Recently, I had a special project to do and I was desperate to remember that photo app I loved. And here it is! So excited to have this back in my life!
Where is my camera and the film packs I purchased?! I’m so disgusted.
Tried to report app crashing as I try to change shutter speed. Help desk is non-existent….
With the new Hipstamatic app as social media I fear the classic will be history. No update in 10 months and a lot of focus on the new app. I like the new system but certain aspects are only accessible to members. That is totally understandable and helps keep it a smaller but sweet space. As someone who has invested in 133 gears - and a previous subscriber to Oggl- which I loved — most of my gear does not carry on over to the new app. I cannot edit / crop - which is ok as it forces me to shot straight from the camera- that’s a good thing. Most importantly- there is the multiple exposure feature that is a major draw for me to Hipstamatic. It probably will not be sustainable to tend to 2 apps. Such will leave some of us — with less then our investment in the app over time. While I have only been a hipsta since 2012- I consider myself semi-OG as it was my first app installed after having used it on a window device prior during 2011. Please don’t become an elitist app- even if it does maintain a certain quality in keeping it limited….
I have been using this app since 2010, and it is my go to app for taking photos. Easy to use and understand, you wont be disappointed in this app!
The app is fantastic but unfortunately when I went to do some adjustments on a camera setting it just kicked me out of the app. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed.
I have been using Hipstamatic since my first iPhone (4). It’s been my favorite camera app ever since.
But the Retropak Twelve is still trying to charge $4.99, when they all are shown to be on sake for 99¢.
If I could take a photo but this app doesn’t apply to all phones.
This has been favorite app since it first was released many years ago. And it still is, but need to be updated because the app is lagging after iOS update and/or I got the iPhone 14 pro. Looking forward to an update soon. Kindly Regards
I love this app but the moment I try to change the ASA setting the app crashes. I have spent a lot of money on this app and I really would love to keep it. It used to be a solid platform but now it’s very prone to crashing. Could you please fix this problem and release more filters? I’m willing to pay.
Love this app but can’t change the film speed with out it crashing. Needing a solution.
This app no longer works with my iPhone. I have the iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 16. No matter what lens or film I use everything is zoomed in and blurry! Please help. I have purchased so many packs over the years and no longer able to use them.
Ever since the update to ios 16 this app has gotten laggy when trying to shoot in regular mode. I have to go to fullscreen mode so it wont lag, will we see an update that fixes this ? Love the app and its a 5 star app but with that lag i had to drop it to 3. Ive spent money on this app so i dont want to give it up but plz fix it soon!
This is an incredibly fun and versatile app that will jumpstart your creativity. The customer service and support is amazing. I accidentally miss-entered my email address, and was not able to access my account. I didn’t realize it until a few years after purchasing some add-ons, and found I couldn’t access them. I received prompt and very helpful personalized service and was able to get everything back on track quickly. Highly recommend it!
I’ve had Hipstamatic since my first iPhone; iPhone 4s+. It’s a great app, I love all the film, flashes, cases; everything about Hipstamatic. Thank you.
Hipstamatic’s lenses, filters, and flashes bring another dimension to mobile photography. From heavy-handed saturation or grain to subtle color shifts, there’s always a combo waiting to be discovered. No matter how good the shot, Hipstamatic never fails to add something interesting to the image - inspiring me to shoot even better. Hipstamatic’s achievement in mobile photography editing is only matched by its customer support. As the Hipstamatic ambassador, Allan is always there to answer all my questions with his prowess as a technical guide. Thank you to everyone at Hipstamatic for the inspiration, support, and memories…and, hopefully, many more years to come.
Thank you for existing. Bring back the Hipstacase I had a white one back in the day.
I've used this since it came out...I still love it 2022. One of the best ways to edit!
I’ve been using Hipstamatic for years. I also have Tintype and Hipstamatic X. But my first love is Hipstamatic. The fact that I can apply favorite lens/film/flash/etc. combinations to existing photos is fantastic, though I more often let Hipstamatic surprise me with preset combos. One of the best things about this app is their purchasing model. No subscriptions, no $50 price tag to get all the bells and whistles. You like a hipstapack, you buy it, you don’t like one, you pass on it. Wish more apps would copy this model. I and many of my friends have passed on many subscription apps because the cost just adds up too much too fast when app updates aren’t even guaranteed. Kudos to the Hipstamatic developers.
